Student searches and personal privacy
The Fourth Amendment protects people from unreasonable searches. At school, that protection is real but softer than on the street. In New Jersey v. T.L.O., the Supreme Court said school officials do not need a warrant; they need reasonable suspicion that a search will turn up evidence of a broken rule or law. Understanding that standard helps you stay calm and clear if a search ever happens to you.
