What a curfew ordinance typically contains

The exceptions are the part people most often do not know about and most often need: travelling to or from work, being accompanied by a parent or guardian, an emergency, attending a school, religious, or civic event, or interstate travel are common examples.
Because the exceptions vary, the useful thing to know is not a general rule but your own city's actual text — which is usually published on the city or county website, since ordinances are public.
Consequences are often not what people assume
A curfew violation is generally a civil or municipal matter rather than a serious criminal charge in most places, and consequences often fall on a parent as well as a young person — a fine, a warning, or a referral to a diversion program. Some ordinances escalate for repeat violations.

Searching your city's name with “curfew ordinance” usually finds the actual text, and a public library or city clerk's office can help read it. Two things are worth checking specifically: whether a work exception exists and what proof it requires, since that is the one most likely to come up for a teenager with an evening shift, and whether the curfew applies in the county as well as the city, since those can differ.
Curfews have also been challenged in court on constitutional grounds in various places with mixed results, so the fact that one exists does not by itself mean every version of it has been upheld — but that is a question for a lawyer, not something to litigate on a street corner at midnight.
