Organizing the walkway rally
Your city cut the library's weekend hours, and you and two friends want to organize a visible, peaceful response. You're imagining thirty students with signs. You've never organized anything bigger than a study group, and one friend is worried you could "get arrested for protesting."

- Peaceful assembly on sidewalks and in parks is strongly protected; blocking traffic or entrances is not.
- Permit rules must be content-neutral: about size, sound, and safety, never about the message.
- Minors have the same assembly rights as adults, and the same obligation to follow lawful dispersal orders.

- Assign roles: a point person, someone with water and a charged phone, someone noting anything unusual.
- Share an emergency contact and a meeting point with everyone.
- If police give instructions, comply calmly and document; the campaign continues afterward.

Tell your families the plan and invite a couple of adults to attend. Their presence protects everyone and signals the seriousness of the cause.
